My old boss at Bridge Information Systems started off as a tea boy at Reuters many moons ago, ended up being the CEO of Dow Jones Capital Markets then at Bridge where I worked - things were clearly different back then, but there are still opportunities at supposedly lower levels in the banking world where you can earn decent money and bonuses - the perm receptionists at the likes of Deutsche, CSFB, BAML,UBS etc wear Rolex or Cartier watches or better - and looking at some of them they ain't got them through shagging a banker.
Re-Insurance is another area where there are opportunities, good luck to your boy, hope he gets a decent job.

Block a level 4 qualification is not a degree.
I don’t want to argue about it as it is a fact.
Whether someone wants to call their apprenticeship a level 4 is a different matter.
- degree is a level 6 qualification. A masters is a level 7
A level 4 is and HNC equivalent
A level 5 is an HND equivalent
Happy to be proved wrong with imperial evidence. Good luck finding it.

I was forced to take a work experience kid out with me a few yrs ago.
I gave him an adjustable spanner and told him to loosen three nuts and walked back to the van. When I returned, he was standing there looking at the spanner. I asked him what the problem was...he told me the spanner didnt fit.
I took him back to the office and the girls gave him some filing to do.
Useless cunt.

Very socialist eh Gavros? I wouldn't allow royalty any special privileges or payments after Liz pops her clogs mate. I'm all for the common man and democracy unlike the Marxist Labour party....

That's right Gavros. Didn't I reda that he raised £4m to start his company somewhere? Is that Bolty's level then?
How's your tea boy status going now Gavros? Have they put you in the post room yet...?

Euan Blair was gifted a job at Morgan Stanley after interning for them.
He was due to be parachuted into a safe labour seat until the blairites were routed.
Now running some shit apprenticeship firm.
I'd say he's found his level. Around Bolty's level.

White Hat when I worked up town had an awful reputation.
I do believe however they supply FACEBOOK with it's apprentices now, so this could all have changed.
QA Apprenticeships are excellent, we do a lot with them.

Michael, your son should check out https://whitehat.org.uk/ a 'modern' approach to apprenticeships that I've seen popping up in a few places. Founder and CEO is Tony Blairs son, Euan.
University is great though if he's got good grades go and have some fun for a few years and get a better job after.

Block 2:42 Wed Aug 7 Sound advice. Can't believe I've just typed that.
Plenty of opportunities for part-time study whilst working - a decent employer would help out with time and costs.

My experience of employing people has been that University allows a brain to develop certain abilities. This doesnt make people entrepreneurs or street sharp but it does mean they have plenty of skills that means they are just faster and sharper than non university people you might find. However, the brightest person I ever had in my company was a 15 year old work experience kid from Eton who shat on pretty much everybody for speed and accuracy of thought process.

major problem for Uni graduates, is that they want the world on a stick immediately because they have a degree (i was one of them)
thats especially apparant for grads between the age of 21-late 20's.
once they have a few years behind them, developed a bit of business acumen, often the combined intelligence and experience becomes useful for an employer and they can REAP in their 30's - 40's. Provided the attitude is decent in the early years and firms dont fuck them off for being arrogant high maintenance cunts

Our school and university system churns out unprecedented levels of illiterate fucktards who have meaningless qualifications that give them ideas beyond their station and a supremely over-inflated sense of self worth.
What a degree does do, is get you through the initial screening process - HR, like most people, are lazy, and if they have 500 applicants, it is far easier to eliminate 100/200 on the basis of not having a degree without even bothering to look at anything else. After that, you're on your own, with your personality and (in some cases) job specific knowledge being key differentiators.
